Over 250 artists to be featured on same weekend in two Providence-based shows this fall
(Providence – May 29, 2019) - The Creative Capital just got a little more creative. Mark your calendars, Providence: this fall, two of the area’s best annual art and craft shows will take place on the same weekend just a mile apart.
The 24th annual Fine Furnishings Show and the 3rd annual Art Providence Show will both be staged on November 8-10, 2019 and collectively showcase the work of over 250 high end artists, makers and designers.
The Fine Furnishings Show will return to the WaterFire Arts Center, 475 Valley Street, for the second consecutive year. A little over a mile and less than a five-minute drive away, the Art Providence Show will fill two halls at the Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin Street.
“The WaterFire Arts Center is a wonderful venue for our show,” said Karla Little, owner. “It provides a lovely and fitting backdrop for our exhibitors’ work and fabulous amenities for both exhibitors and attendees, including ample free parking.”
The Art Providence Show, formerly the annual RISD Alumni Holiday Sale that was traditionally held the first Saturday in December, is produced by ArtSmart Productions and will be presented in Exhibit Halls C and D of the Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin Street.
“The capacity of the RICC is unmatched and we love being in downtown Providence,” said Laura Burkett, owner/operator of ArtSmart and Executive Director of the Art Providence Show.
“We wanted to move off the December date and get ahead of the curve,” added Burkett. “When we discovered our best option was the same weekend as the Fine Furnishings Show, Karla could not have been more gracious about our move. Right away we discussed opportunities to work together rather than compete, and it felt empowering.”
Burkett and Little combined marketing efforts when the shows were held on two different dates last year. “The spirit of collaboration was already there,” noted Little. “I think sharing the same date makes it even stronger. Together we offer twice the motivation to shoppers looking for handmade craft and home decor.”
“We showcase different artists and work with different emphases,” said Burkett. “But ultimately, both shows bring high quality craft to an art savvy customer – of which there are plenty in this area.”
The Fine Furnishings Show features handcrafted furniture in a wide range of styles, materials and prices but also includes accessories such as lamps, lighting, textiles, fine art and photography.
The Art Providence Show, juried by prominent industry figures, features high quality handmade art, craft and design in over a dozen categories, including ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, printmaking, photography, wood and more.
The two shows share more than just timing and extensive selection. Tickets to each show will be $10 at the door, and customers will get a coupon with their purchased entry for half off admission into the other show. Both shows offer free admission to kids 12 and under.
“Effectively, you can shop two great shows and browse 250 plus artists in one day for just $15,” clarified Burkett.
“It doesn’t get much better than that,” said Little.
